    Questions riders ask

    What makes a place motorcycle-friendly?

A place where turning up on a bike is not a problem: somewhere to park off the street, staff used to riders walking in wearing gear, and room to dry wet kit. That is what the map records about a place, and what a rider confirms once they have actually stopped there.

Who adds the places, and does anyone check them?

Riders and open data, and the difference matters. A core of the map was gathered and checked by hand by the rider community, and riders keep adding to it. Every submission is read by a person before it goes live. The rest is imported from public map sources so there is something to find where no rider has been yet; those entries have not been visited by anyone. Riders are what turns an imported pin into a recommendation.

What kinds of places are on the map?

Eleven categories: accommodation, food, motorcycle shops, repair services, rentals, fuel, tow trucks, medical points, rider communities, viewpoints and guided adventures.

Does the app work without a signal?

Yes. Places you have already loaded stay available offline, which is the whole point. The stretches where you most need a workshop or a bed are usually the stretches with no coverage.

    Does Motonest cost anything?

No. The app is free to download and free to use, and it carries no advertising.

How do I add a place I know?

Open the place on the map or tap add, fill in what a rider needs to know, and attach a photo. It takes about a minute. Large parts of the map are imported and nobody has ridden to them. One place you have actually used is worth more than a hundred pins nobody has checked.
