Nordkapp against all odds!
13th of June 2016. My boss called me in his office and told me that I receive only 2 weeks of holiday at the beginning of August! Oh, my! Oh, my! Suddenly, my dream trip became a nightmare. All my plans seemed to go to waste. I thought about this trip for more than a year and now the chances to fulfil my wishes dropped from 10 to 0 in 5 seconds. Or 5 words.”You get 2 weeks holiday.” Oh s * * t! Ok. Deep breath. Count to 3. Alexandra, you’re gonna make it! 9200 km in 2 weeks straight. August. A BMW F800 GS and a lot of desire for adventure and discovering the world. This was, in broad lines, my summer holiday for 2016. A walk in the pink lake.
” Stop, stop! I want to take a picture! ” I told to Nicolay in the comunicator. Beyond Istanbul over 400 km you start to feel Asia. The advantage of a motorcycle trip is indisputable. You can see things as they are in their day by day life. Far from the tourist areas, everything is ” like at them ” and has nothing to do with anything you know or knew until then. There’s no doubt that their habits will look strange. Probably the same thing they would say about us if they would visit us. On the edge of a huge pink lake, everyone was bumping and clinging to the same place. Why? Simply because they were staying there as a crowd. Must see to understand why NO!
I’ve seen it in several shots, even in some movie sequence, but I never imagined it was so huge. I do not think I can tell exactly why certain places are attracting me to see them. Some may because they just exist, others for their beauty, others for their history or even their oddities, some because they are hard to reach and I could find a whole lot of reasons. But every place I saw was motivated. Of course there are surprise places, you get over them and you are wondering. these are the prettiest ones. Why did I choose to see the Buzludzha monument? I think of curiosity at first. But after seeing him I can say it is probably the most kitch and one of the most ugly buildings ever seen. The Communists broke about 10 meters from the top of a mountain and built a construction of about 35 million dollars, just to glorify communism. 7 dollars cost for a DIY photo camera/gopro mounting suport.
It happens many times to find out around the corner a beautiful landscape. And the wish to record that on camera came immediately. And the trouble with it. If you do not have the proper gear (camera accessories) fitted on your motorcycle, you have to stop , take out the camera, try to fit it somewhere and you’ll always be with one eye to see if it didn’t fall down. I tried, like many of you did, to put it on my helmet, but it started to pull my head back anytime I had a little bit more speed. I searched for some mounting support which needed to match with the idea of fitting in easily; to be able to leave the camera on the mounting support and switch it on and off whenever seeing a beautiful landscape popping out the corner. We all know that it’s not a matter of ”If ” but a matter of ”When” you stop your motorcycle on the side of the road because of a fault. Personally, I was unable to continue my trip only once in 70 000 km, when my alternator belt get ripped and in not more than 40 km I stopped. To continue it was nearly impossible because I haven’t got a spare one. So the solution was a tow-truck. 🙁 Of course there are lots of tutorials on the web which show us how to change an alternator belt (in my case) and lots of tutorials of how to change and repair all kind of problems which can occur on a motorcycle during a trip. Here I am, over 40. In spite of the fact that now I understand much better what is happening around me, even if sometimes I feel that the responsibilities are putting too much pressure on my shoulders, I still remember very well my vision about life from when I was 25. Well, the years just rolled by from when I was 25, the age when you feel that your boss is extremely stupid and you see yourself in his place in a couple of months. It took me some long time to achieve that and it was much harder that I thought at the beginning. It took as well many years to see my daughter grew up, becoming an adolescent and when I was thinking that we will understand each other better, she told me that she’s always right and I’m always wrong. Last week I was sharing with you how I choose a motorcycle against a psychologist and how my life changed after that. I got numerous messages which made me feel that I’m in a brotherhood. The advice (opinion) of a motorcyclist does matter!
I always listen to motorcyclist’s advice. Time is precious and when I have to search for Motorcycle friendly places, I don’t want to waste my time with useless experiences and I pretty much take the motorcyclist’s recommendations very seriously. The idea of “Motorcycle friendly” or “Bikers welcome” is not new and if all these places could be connected together, we can easily create a network of places and services based on the motorcyclists ’recommendations. It would be excellent to have on this network as many motorcycle friendly services as necessary, not only accommodations or restaurants. And if this network could be easy to access from anywhere in the world and the network would be updated in real time – that would be just perfect! It doesn’t sound bad at all, does it? New update for Motonest mobile App
Motonest Mobile App entered the mobile app market on January, 2017. The Motonest Mobile App can be used on a daily basis and with just 3 clicks you can find the designated places for motorcyclists. Starting from moto shops and continuing with accommodations, moto shop or tow-truck companies, on the Motonest Mobile App you’ll find all the important spots for a motorcyclist, divided into 8 categories. The new update of the Motonest App comes with a lot of functionalities. 1. The using of the app both online and offline; Motonest App can be used without an Internet connection or a GSM coverage, a very useful feature once you find yourself in remote areas or places where the Internet cannot be accessed due to technical or financial reasons. 2. The appearance of Nests (important locations) on the full screen map. With just one click on the screen, the map will open full screen so you can see all the nests from the map.
